4 Day Sahara Desert Tour From Marrakech

Sahara Desert Tour

Taking a 4 day Sahara Desert tour to the big, red, Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga gives you a little extra time to enjoy stops along the way to and from the desert, rather than driving straight back to Marrakech on the 3rd day as you would with a shorter desert trip.

On the 4 day Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech you will take a break on each leg of the journey and have time to see the sites along the route.

There are just so many things to see and do on your way to the magical desert for camel trekking and a night stay in a Sahara desert camp. On the first day you can stop and visit at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah after traveling over the High Atlas Mountains. Both are spectacular activities and it’s only the first day! Enjoy time in some of the magical valleys and oasis along the way. Enjoy date tasting at the source and learn about fossils taken from the desert which used to be covered in ocean, millions of years ago.

On your Sahara desert tour you will spend time in Roses Valley and don’t forget about the impressive Todgha Gorge. Walk along the riverbed there with the gorge walls extending 350 m straight up on either side of you.

When you arrive at the desert you will be treated to a refreshing cup of tea before you meet your camel for a ride into the dunes on your Sahara Desert Tour. Spend the night under the stars and enjoy a fresh meal of tagine and fruit prepared for you by the nomads in your camp.

PLEASE NOTE

There are TWO options for the desert tour:

1 – Comfort Option.

You will be booked into beautiful, comfortable and clean accommodation reflecting the local flavour. Meals are prepared for you onsite and we choose only quality, well rated hotels. In the Sahara, you will be offered a private tent with comfortable bedding and a shared toilet tent with sinks and toilet stalls.

2 – Luxury Option.

With this option you will be offered higher rated hotels along the way, with more amenities including bar service and a pool. In the Sahara, you will be given a private tent with well made beds and more amenities as well as en suite private 3 piece toilet facilities. (Hot showers!)

Please let us know when you are booking which option you would like so we can quote your trip accordingly.

Take a little extra time and really sink your teeth into life in the south of Morocco. Visit the Sahara Desert without the long drive back to Marrakech. Stop in Ait Ben Haddou for the night and spend a little more time exploring on the way back from your Sahara desert experience.

Day 1
High Atlas Mountains. Ait Ben Haddou. Ouarzazate. Dades Valley.

Start this spectacular journey by entering the High Atlas Mountains outside Marrakech.

Climb higher and higher to reach Tizi n’ Tichka Pass, the highest in North Africa at 2,260 m.

The landscape unfolds before you and offers new and breathtaking vistas at every turn in the road.

Next you will visit Ouarzazate, the movie capital of Morocco, before continuing and then on to Dades Gorge, one of the hidden gems of Morocco with its steep mountain slopes and amazing rock formations.

Relax and enjoy dinner included with your stay.

Day 2
Todgha Gorge, Tinghir, Tinejdad, Erfoud. Sahara Desert (Erg Chebbi)

Depart from Dades Gorge after breakfast for a short drive to the Todgha Gorge. Cut through the mountain by a river over thousands of years of persistence, you will walk along the gorge basin, and hopefully spot some rock climbers. The rock face jutts out of the basin at a 300m vertical!

From here you will go to Erfoud, home to some of the world’s oldest fossils and the date capital of Morocco.

Enjoy some of the freshest dates plucked from the date palms you have seen along your way.

After a tea break it is time to board your camels and head into the desert for a night in the camp. Enjoy the undulating dunes on the leisurely ride on your dromedary.

Once you are in camp, you will have a chance to climb the nearest dune and enjoy the views all the way to distant Algeria.

Watch the sun set and view the vast desert sky as you settle in to dinner prepared by nomads, before falling into a deep sleep in the total and complete silence of the desert.

Day 3
Merzouga. Tazarine. Agdez. Ouarzazate

Wake early if you like and climb the sand dunes to watch the beautiful sunrise. Ride the camels and back to the base camp where you can shower and enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Drive on to Ouarzazate through the amazing ancient town of Rissani. Stop here if you like and visit the traditional souk which is considered the largest in southern Morocco.

Continue through the beautiful Draa Valley and revel in the millions of lush date palms. In the evening arrive Ouarzazate and check into hotel.

Day 4
Ait Ben Haddou. High Atlas Mountains. Marrakech.

You’ll stop at Ksar Ait Ben Haddou for lunch where you are free to explore the Kasbah.
Still the home to five Berber families, it has been the star of many modern movies and TV shows including Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia.
