Marrakech Airport Guide: Navigating Facilities and Services

Table of Contents

As you embark on your trip to Marrakech, you must be wondering what your experience will be like at the Marrakech airport. We have created a Marrakech Airport Guide to make it easy to navigate this part of your journey. Marrakech, also sometimes spelled Marrakesh, Menara Airport, serves as your key gateway to the most vibrant city of Marrakech and the wider Marrakech-Safi region in Morocco.

This international airport boasts a prime location, situated only 5 kilometers from the city center of Marrakech, allowing you hassle-free access to the city’s bustling streets and colorful marketplaces. With its strategic position, Marrakech Airport not only connects you to Moroccan cities like Casablanca and Fes but also to various destinations across Europe and, as of this fall, the United States.

Upon your arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, you’re welcomed by stunning architecture that marries modernity with traditional Moroccan designs. The Marrakech airport has undergone significant renovations to accommodate the growing number of travelers eager to explore Morocco’s cultural jewel. It boasts two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, which can handle up to 9 million passengers annually. Inside the arrivals hall, you will find a terminal building that matches comfort with efficiency, including a selection of many shops, dining options, and car rental services, ensuring your visit starts on the right foot. You will also find currency exchanges where you can change your dollars or euros for Moroccan dirham, however, you will find the rates slightly higher at the airport.

Marrakech Airport Transportation

When you land at RAK Airport, you’ll find a variety of convenient transportation services to take you to your destination. Whether you prefer the simplicity of public transit or the comfort of private transfers, you’ll discover options tailored to your travel needs.

There are a few transportation options to choose from to get from the airport to the city center. You can make arrangements in advance through your accommodations to have a driver meet you at the airport and take you directly to your riad. If you are traveling on one of our tours, we will arrange to have a driver meet you as part of your tour package. You will also find pre-paid taxi arrangements just outside the terminal doors to your right. There is a kiosk where you can offer your destination address, and a preset fare will be charged. You can pay by cash or credit card.

Once you have paid for your taxi, just take your receipt to the taxi loading area at the top of the ramp and a driver will take you to the city. Please note that the preset fares are determined by the local authorities and are very fair. You might choose to offer the driver a small tip if his service is good. A tip of $2 – $5 is more than enough.

The journey from the airport to the old medina or downtown Marrakech, known also as Gueliz (GILL-eez) should be around 15 – 20 minutes in moderate traffic.
